Den Haag GAA club would like to extend an invitation to all Men’s and Ladies Gaelic football teams to their second annual European Invitational Gaelic Football Tournament 2008!
The tournament will take place on the 16th February 2008 at the WRC Rugby Club, the Hague. It is aimed at adult football teams playing at junior level in Ireland.
Is your team looking for an opportunity to take a trip outside of Ireland to pit your football skills against a host of visiting teams a! nd the Hague Men’s and Ladies teams, with a chance to take the European Invitational Trophy back home.
Playing 11-a-side for men and 9-a-side for ladies, on a rugby sized pitch, teams will battle it out in a series of group matches with the strongest teams contesting the finals.
Building on the success of last year’s inaugural tournament, Den Haag GAA club are eager to establish this event into a premier invitational tournament for visiting Irish clubs.
Enjoy a full day of high quality football followed by a dinne r and presentation ceremony and the best of Dutch night life.
The Hague is easily accessible from Ireland at a very reasonable price. It is a 30min train ride from Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport or one hour and a half from Eindhoven airport. Accommodation can also be arranged in the Hague city centre at excellent rates.

The below has come about because Den Haag hurlers won the 2007 European League.
As Europe is twinned with Leinster they have offered us the wonderful opportunity to see how far we have come by sending their winners from below competition to the club that won the European League Den Haag GFHC. We are inviting players from all the hurling areas in Europe to train with us so that we can have the best European team to take on the winners of below. I’m writing to remind you about Seachtain na Gaeilge, a festival that is organised all over the world every year in an effort to promote the Irish language and culture. The festival has been running for over a hundred years and runs for almost a fortnight in the days before St Patrick’s Day, 3 – 17 March 2008.
We would really appreciate it, and it would help us a great deal, if you could organise events or point us in the direction of companies, agencies or clubs and groups that might have an interest in what we do here. Our aim is that Seachtain na Gaeilge will be internationally popular and those with Irish connections and an interest in the culture, will have the chance to give speaking their native tongue a try, or to have a taste of Irish culture if only once a year.
Groups organise events such as table quizzes, céilís and music sessions among many others. There are many possibilities during the festival and we welcome all with an interest to partake. Anyone who registers an event with us will receive support materials, posters, balloons, stickers, in the post.

Remembering Old Ireland
Ever wondered what life was like in Ireland before the arrival of the famous Celtic Tiger? Well, wonder no more for a double CD of 18 true stories - Mystical Irish Musings Vol.1 - about the old country has just been released at www.irishmusings.com
The author/narrator, Brian Mac a’ Bhaird, is a direct descendent of the Bards of ancient Ireland . During the autumn break, from 18-28 October, the beach in Scheveningen had been the stage for Illuminada - a son-et-lumière spectacle that turns the beach into an enormous open-air theater. “Team Shoebox†is asking all generous expats to fill a shoebox with a CHILD-SPECIFIC Christmas gift for a young orphan in South Africa, at the Abraham Kriel Children’s Home. You can look up their website: www.kinderhuis.co.za
The plan is to collect 250 Christmas Gifts by November 9, and have them all sent to an orphanage in South Africa . One will be advised of the age & gender of the child for whom you are buying.
Suggested gift items include: new underwear, toothbrushes, socks, hair items, toiletries, crayons! / felt tip pens / colouring in books, stickers, any toys (no battery operated toys!!), deflated balls, caps, perhaps some candy, a t-shirt, socks etc to the value of €15 - 20. Please, NO second hand clothes / toys! We recommend Zeeman or Hema for inexpensive, yet nice & new goods.
For the older children: English books, deoderant, perfume, underwear, socks, T/shirt, shawls, bag, make-up for the girls, hairclips, toiletries etc. Deadline for delivering gifts will be 9 November at 3 collection points in Den Haag.
