Roy Keane is playing down his meeting with Wolves boss Mick McCarthy tomorrow.

Thursday, November 23rd, 2006

Tomorrow  the saga of Keave  and Mick McCarthy will resurface, but on amicable Professional terms, they both have a job to do and with a match to look forward to where ex-Sunderland boss, ex-Ireland Manager, current Wolves manager, sets his team ready to host Sunderland, now managed by Roy Keane, the Irish captain sent home by Mick McCarthy from the World Cup in Japan, or a World Cup in which Roy Keane walked out on the Irish team and went home - whichever side of the fence you sat - the winning manager of this encounter will still sit with a a private grin of glee.
Although they may not be on each other’s Christmas card list, they have put to rest amicably their differences,  as they worked together to trade a player a few weeks ago. They are professionals and get on with the job - professionally.

http://www.safc.com/news/?page_id=1104

Just another game.

Keane said: “The hype doesn’t worry me in the least. You are going to get people who will try to make a headline. There’s probably more being made of it by the media than there needs to be.

“I spoke to Mick a few weeks ago and we put everything to bed. As far as I’m concerned it’s about the players tomorrow - it’s Sunderland versus Wolves and everyone should be talking about that.

“My players are professional, they know they have to go out and do a job and they’ll stay focused. It’s just another game but one we desperately want to win.”

Chris de Burgh in Hamburg (Nov 27)

Thursday, November 23rd, 2006

Message from Chris de Burgh Website:
some of you might remember that, when the sale of the tickets
for “The Storyman” tour started they were sold at a 10% reduction
price for a limited time (until 31 Dec 2005). But the local promoter
in Hamburg forgot about this special offer, and some of you paid too
much for their Hamburg tickets. At the time it was discussed that
maybe a “Meet&Greet” with Chris could happen for those who paid too
much.

Unfortunately, this is not possible with the current schedule of
Chris in Hamburg. However, those who have paid too much should go to
the box office (Abendkasse) before the concert and show their
ticket. When it shows a sale-date in 2005 (the date is in small
prints at the bottom of the ticket), then you have a choice of
either getting re-imbursed your money or getting a free tour
programme (I am not quite sure how much this costs, but should be
more than the 10%…).

Celtic defeat Man Utd to qualify for the Knockout stages of the Champions League

Thursday, November 23rd, 2006

In sensational fashion Celtic, at home in Parkhead, held English Premiership Leaders Manchester United scoreless. On 79 minutes, Nakamura curled a free-kick in to the top corner past United keeper Van De Sar to mark the first of a memorable 10 minutes for Celtic.

Manhcester United at full strength failed to break down the Celtic defence - United failed to provide any real threat in the last 1/4 of the field. With seconds remaining however, United were gifted a penalty when Celtic’s Shaun Maloney charged as a free-kick was being taken by Ronaldo. Turing away from the kick, the ball ricocheted from Maloney’s hand while he was still inside the box. A yellow card and a point to the penalty spot. United were once again saved at the bell. A Penalty.

Next came Celtic’s second memorable moment of the last 10, when  reliable Saha struck a low hard penalty to Celtic Keeper Borac’s right, he dived the right way, got a full hand to it and parried the ball away, back into play. Save!

Then came the final whistle - Game over - Celtic 1-0 Manchester united. Memorable moment 3.

There is still one more set of fixtures left in the group - at this juncture Manchester United were still left with 9 points, and Celtic on 9 points. Meanwhile in Portugal Benfica were defeating Copenhagen 3-1, bringing the Portuguese side to 7 points with their remaining fixture against Man. United.

The culmination of these facts, meant that Celtic were guaranteed a top 2 finish in the group, and a qualification place inthe last 16 before even playing their final fixture. Stachan, celtic Boss, and Lennon, Celtic Captain, were unaware of this as they were being interviewed after the match. Memorable moments 4 were the surprise, delight (and hope it wasnt a prank) on Strachan and Lennon’s faces when they were being told that they had actually qualified for the last 16. Superb -.
Great night for Celtic Football Club.

What - An Irish Trad Group for the Eurovision - Are we mad?

Friday, November 17th, 2006

When I heard of Dervish chosen for the Eurovision, the radio-waves filled with scepticism, wondering what impact, if any, Irish trad music could have across Europe.

What most Irish at home do not realise is that Irish / Celtic music has a phenomenal interest and following across Europe.
Another is the 350 local Irish Music bands with no Irish members, in cities in Croatia, Russia, Poland, Lithuania, Finland, France, Portugal, Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, and many more.
Irish Music bands are European festival favourites, with close to 500 European festivals which featured Irish Bands or Irish Music last year.
Over the next month,
Dervish, Altan and Lunasa will be live in Holland,
Gráda are in Belgium and Switzerland,
the Dubliners are in Germany,
an Irish trad band ‘Shannon’ are in Budapest Hungary,
there are Irish folk Festivals in Germany and Austria,
Johnny Logan and Brendan Monaghan in Denmark and Poland,
Feis na hEorpa in Vienna Austria,
Lord of the Dance in France,
Irish Dance Classes followed by Live Irish Music - in Istanbul Turkey
- Black Donnellys are planning trips to Europe in 2007.
So do you still think having Ireland’s top Trad Band in the Eurovision is a bad idea?
There are 500,000 Irish based across Europe,
and 6 Million Europeans involved in the weekly Irish Scene in Continental Europe.
